Closeboard (also called feather edge) fencing is the strongest and most private timber fence you can put in a garden. Vertical overlapping boards are nailed to horizontal rails between solid posts, so there are no gaps and nothing to blow out in a storm. It is our most popular fence in Sheffield, and for good reason.

Concrete or timber posts?
For most Sheffield gardens we recommend slotted or mortice concrete posts with a concrete gravel board at the bottom. That keeps the timber off the soil, which is where fences usually rot first. On steep or uneven ground, timber posts can be the better choice – we will advise on the free visit.
